Summer Intensive • Reflections
July seems like a long time ago! School has begun, and summer has faded into the distant past. After spending many hours with about a dozen children in June and July, I'm now wondering how they are faring in school. But first it's worth noting the initial accomplishments they made from the work they did this summer. They were many and amazing! Mostly we moved: some exercises were for reflex intervention, bouncing balls and passing or tossing sandbags helped eye tracking, tim

Summer Intensive: Tutoring vs Rewiring
Imagine, if you will, watering your garden with a tangled hose. Yes, it's possible to attach it to the water source, and it's possible for water to travel through the hose and come out at the other end…eventually. But how long will it take? Will the plants be properly watered? Maybe increasing the pressure and water flow would be helpful. Surely putting more water through the hose will cause some of the tangles to work themselves out. Perhaps, but still the twists and bends w

Summer Intensive: Improve Your Timing . . . Improve Your Life!
When our timing is off, we can feel it. The sluggishness, tiredness, slowness. Or the out-of-control hyperactivity of body or mind.

Summer Intensive • Building Better Focus through Reflex Integration
Today I planned my Summer Intensive to help people who have ADHD. It will run June 9 through August 2 and consists of 2-3 weekly lessons, totaling at least 18 for the summer. So what happens in a session? The short answer is "lots of movement!". The long answer . . . building timing building coo

Are you paying attention?
Hasn't everyone heard that question at least once? Spouses ask each other. Parents ask children. Teachers ask students. It's getting more common as the years pass. And there are many reasons why attention is deteriorating. I'm less concerned about why attention is eroding and more interested in what can be done about it. There is only one official diagnosis for attention problems: ADHD. That means that everyone who has poor attention gets similar treatment, beginning with que

Pass & Bounce Club
I discovered Bal-A-Vis-X on FaceBook when a reflex integration friend mentioned a colleague's training workshop. It intrigued me enough to visit the website and get trained. When I discovered they no longer have a formal training program I ordered all the materials and started reading and practicing. News report from Scott Kilbury at KOLD 13 in Tucson, AZ Very quickly it made a huge difference in my own coordination! Then I looked for children to practice with. What an

Let's Drum! . . . builds Better Focus
Imagine a circle that fosters respect for all ages and abilities playing together! Imagine a circle of musicians playing the same rhythm in perfect unison then dividing into an incredible groove. Imagine them stopping to listen as one drummer improvises then coming in together with the original rhythms. This is what happens in a Let's Drum session. We'll start with an improvisation (just playing whatever seems good) then move on to an ensemble. Repertoire is based on music fr
